The origins of Alter Sense® extend far beyond the clothes. What began as a fun side project to escape the pandemic dystopia eventually grew into my deepest passion and obsession. 2020 was the year our day-to-day reality was shaken. In the midst of this, many people were faced with mental health challenges, including myself. With the stay at home order in full effect, I used the act of creating as my therapeutic practice.
With idle time to explore more film and television during quarantine, I began to tell a story of my own. My imagination was the window into a world inspired by concepts of sci-fi, mysticism, fantasy, metaphysics and spirituality.
I began making visual art that not only would allow me to articulate the story of this new world, but could be a direct source to channel my emotion. My goal was to create surreal imagery that could truly make you feel something. I used a combination of heavily edited and manipulated stock imagery to compose an entirely new image in a collage-like fashion. Every visual fell naturally into a current of cohesion. As this new frontier opened, I felt the intuitive nudge of confirmation to keep going.
I was building the foundation of my personal branding and the world of Area 426
